India Taliban meeting: India has taken a big step to strengthen its relations with Afghanistan. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry met Taliban government’s Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaki in Dubai on Wednesday (January 8). Political and economic relations were discussed in detail in this meeting.
Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki thanked India for providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. He said that Taliban wants to maintain relations with India as an important economic country.
India’s help and support
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry said that there are historical relations between India and Afghanistan. India has provided humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan over the last three and a half years and expressed willingness to cooperate in infrastructure projects. During the meeting, Taliban Foreign Minister assured India of security and said that there is no threat to India from Afghanistan. This assurance has come at a time when border tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan is at its peak.
Visa and enhance trade relations
Both sides discussed increasing trade through Chabahar port. This port can play an important role in strengthening trade relations between India and Pakistan. Apart from this, Taliban has demanded to increase visa related facilities for Indian students, businessmen and patients. The Taliban said in a statement that both sides had agreed to facilitate trade and visas.

This meeting may increase Pakistan’s uneasiness. Especially when there is tension on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Taliban had recently attacked a Pakistani Army post, due to which tension between the two countries has increased.
