Purnia, 21 August (HS). During the strike in Purnia, hooligans thrashed the bikers on the road with sticks and broke the vehicles. Many people were injured in this.
The incident took place in Line Bazaar where the strikers created a lot of ruckus and surrounded the bikers passing by and started thrashing them with sticks. All the bikers who were passing by were thrashed with sticks.
The bikers were constantly requesting that they were doing some urgent work, they had come for medicine or to take care of their patient or they had to go somewhere but no one was being listened to and lathi blows were being hurled at them. A son carrying an elderly person on a bike kept on requesting again and again that he had come to take his father to the hospital and that he should be allowed to go but the rioters did not spare him either and kept hurling lathi blows at him. One biker was thrashed so hard with lathis that he fell down along with his bike on the road.
There was a passenger sitting on an e-rickshaw and the rowdy boys started pelting them with sticks too. The passengers on the e-rickshaw got down and started running. When they were asked, they said that we were forcibly insisting the e-rickshaw driver to go to Sadar Hospital. He was not ready to go but we said take us somehow. But as we reached the intersection, when the lathi charges started, we had to run away. The police was absent during this time. Had the police been there, it is possible that this incident would not have happened.
