Fastag New Rules: NHMCL, an agency under the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), has notified new rules regarding Fastag. If you have a Fastag and you have not put it on the windshield of the vehicle, then you must do so now. Because now if you try to pay toll with Fastag in your hand, then it is possible that despite having Fastag, you may have to pay double the toll. NHMCL has now had to be strict because some users on expressways and greenfield highways are avoiding paying toll by not putting Fastag on the windshield.
NHAI has caught many such cases on Allahabad bypass, Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway and some other Greenfield Highways where people kept the Fastag in their pockets instead of putting it on the windshield to avoid paying the toll. The fee on the expressway is deducted only when a vehicle leaves the highway. Toll is collected according to the kilometer covered from entry to exit. Some people enter the toll without showing the Fastag and try to avoid paying the toll by showing the Fastag in their pockets.
will have to pay double toll
The circular issued by NHMCL in this regard states, “If a vehicle enters the Fastag lane and does not have a tag on its windshield, the toll operator or toll collection agencies will charge “double user fee” of the applicable fee. Toll collectors should display this information at the plaza for public information, including provision for penalty.” Apart from this, toll collectors have also been instructed to “store CCTV footage with clear vehicle registration number” of vehicles whenever double fee is charged due to not having Fastag on the windshield.
Benefits of installing it on the windshield
If the Fastag is placed on the front windshield of the car, it gets read as soon as the car reaches the toll and the toll tax is deducted. Due to this, the vehicles standing behind also do not have to wait and they can also move ahead easily. The Fastag should be placed on the windshield in such a place from where the camera can easily scan it.
