Ranchi, August 17 (HS). In protest against the rape and murder of a female resident doctor in Kolkata, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a 24-hour strike in all big and small hospitals across the country on Saturday. In the same sequence, doctors of the state's biggest hospital RIMS are on strike. From senior to junior, all are supporting it. From OPD to indoor, the system is completely stalled. Patients are troubled in the indoor while patients are reaching the OPD but they are getting disappointment. Because, there are no doctors in the OPD as well.

On the other hand, the doctors on duty in Sadar Hospital are also on strike and sitting on dharna. There too, patients are returning disappointed. Patients are coming to OPD but are not being treated. However, doctors have been put on duty in emergency for serious patients. Only serious patients are being treated there. The doctors on strike are demanding security. The doctors say that they will not do their duty until they are provided security. The doctors sitting on dharna over the Kolkata incident said that we want justice.

IMA Secretary Dr Pradeep Singh said that such incidents are happening continuously. Doctors are being attacked. For this, we demand Medical Protection Act. The government should implement it. Also, the accused in the Kolkata case is still absconding. The culprits should be identified and immediate action should be taken.

Dr Bharti Kashyap of IMA Women Wing said that there is a need to implement the Serious Crimes Against Women law in the country, so that such crimes against women can be heard in fast track courts. The victim can get justice. Apart from this, she said that the Medical Protection Act should be implemented.

IMA state unit chief Dr Arun Kumar Singh said that all government and private hospitals as well as diagnostic centres are participating in the strike. During this period all elective services, outpatient department (OPD) services and elective surgeries are closed. However, the strike will not affect emergency services.
