Pakistan's government airline PIA has taken a big decision. The company has banned on-duty pilots and flight attendants from fasting during flights during the holy month of Ramadan. Actually, the aviation company has taken this decision keeping in mind the medical advice which states that fasting can cause dehydration. Besides, it can also cause problems like laziness and sleep.
These agencies gave advice
It has been advised by both the agencies Corporate Safety Management and Air Crew Medical Center that pilots and cabin crew members of Pakistan International Airlines should not fast during flights.
Orders were issued based on suggestions
A PIA official said, based on these suggestions, the top management of PIA has issued orders to the pilots and cabin crew staff to comply with immediate effect. It is said that if a person observes a fast, he may have to face problems like sleeplessness and laziness. Therefore, pilots and crew members have been asked not to fast while on duty during international or domestic flights.
Decision taken regarding this incident
Airbus flight number A320 of National Aviation Company crashed in Jinnah Garden near Model Colony in Malir in May-2020. At that time there were 91 passengers and 8 crew members on board the plane. The plane crashed before landing at the airport. Only 2 passengers could be saved in the accident. An investigation report in this matter was published last year, in which advice was also given regarding these matters.
Pakistani media has said in a report that 97 out of 99 people on board the crashed A320 Airbus died, while only 2 people survived. According to reports, the first alert from the air traffic control room was given to the pilot at around 2:30 am, when he was just 15 nautical miles from the runway. The alert asked the pilot to take the plane to an altitude of 7,000 feet to 10,000 feet. But, the reply received from the pilot was that he was satisfied with the altitude of the aircraft and would make a safe landing.
Later, a second alert was given by ATC when the flight was 10 miles from the runway, reducing the flight altitude from 7000 feet to 3000 feet. This time also the pilot was asked to go to higher altitude. This time also the pilot asked for a safe landing of the plane.
