Kanpur, 09 April (HS). Due to the combined effect of El Nino conditions and human-caused climate change, temperatures are increasing globally. Not only this, March 2024 was the hottest month in the world so far and the global average temperature was also the highest recorded in the last 12 months.
These things were said on Tuesday by Dr. S., meteorologist of Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agricultural Technology, Kanpur. N. Sunil Pandey said this while coding the information provided by the European Union's climate agency Copernicus Climate Change Service. He said that due to the above reasons, this is the 10th consecutive month since June last year, when the temperature has set a new record. The global average temperature over the past 12 months (April 2023-March 2024) is the highest ever recorded, 0.70 °C above the 1991-2020 average and 1.58 °C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial average.
The global average temperature crossed the 1.5 °C threshold for the first time in January for the entire year. However, permanent violations of the 1.5 °C limit specified in the Paris Agreement have been happening for many years, which is causing increased global warming. The reason for the increase in global average temperature is the rapid increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, mainly carbon dioxide and methane.
He said that according to climate change scientists, to avoid the worst effects of climate change, all countries need to limit the global average temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius from pre-industrial times.
