Bokaro, August 3 (HS). Due to continuous rain in the district, eight radial gates of Tenughat Dam have been opened. The water level of Tenughat reservoir situated on Damodar river is likely to rise by about 1,00,000 feet, due to which the radial gates of the dam (reservoir) have been opened.
The reservoir has the capacity to hold 865 feet of water. At present, the reservoir is at 860 feet till 12:00 pm. At the same time, 885 feet has been declared as the danger mark. After opening eight gates, the flow of water in the Damodar river became about 1,00,000.00/2831.257 cusecs/cubic meter per second. People bathing on the river bank have been instructed not to let anyone including animals go into the river, which may cause harm. Also, people living on the river bank are instructed to go to safe places with their belongings.
Executive Engineer of Irrigation Department, Ranjit Kujur said that due to continuous rain and excess water coming from the rear part of the reservoir (dam), four gates were opened immediately for safety. Then after 12:00 pm, four additional radial gates were opened due to increased water in the reservoir. In this way, a total of eight radial gates have been opened and more gates will be opened if needed in future. Local people living on the river bank have been informed about this. People have been appealed to stay away from the river bank.
