Bikaner, 27 July (HS). Due to the breaking of a part of the Lunkaransar minor of Indira Gandhi canal, the fields of the area have been submerged. Till now water is reaching the fields. The top officials of the canal department are unaware of this even after ten hours. The crop in the field has been destroyed. Some reservoirs also overflowed. The minor in Chak 3 LKD located in Lunkaransar minor of Indira Gandhi canal broke late on Friday night. After this, the water of the canal entered the fields of the people. Due to which ten to fifteen fields in the area were submerged. There was standing crop in these fields, which has been completely destroyed. When the farmers came to know about the breaking of the canal, the local officials were informed. The work of repairing the minor could not start till morning.
The canal department officials reached the spot about five hours after the information was given. After this, the water coming from the canal was stopped, but by then all the surrounding fields were submerged. Water kept flowing continuously for about six hours. The farmers' crops were ruined as lakhs of liters of water reached the fields. A tank built in the farmer's field also broke due to excessive water. The large tank got filled with water beyond its capacity, due to which the banks of the tank started eroding. Eventually, one side broke completely.
When we talked to Executive Engineer of Indira Gandhi Canal Sandeep Bhati in this regard, he told that he does not have the report of canal breakage. A few days ago, work was done in this canal by placing plastic sheets. If it has broken again, it will be repaired soon.
