Gopeshwar, 23 May (Hindustan Reporter). Dr. Nandkishore Hatwal, an expert on the folk culture of Uttarakhand, said that during this yatra to be organized in the higher Himalayan region, along with the religious aspects, the sensitivity of the Himalayas should also be kept in mind.

Dr. Hatwal was speaking in a program organized on the theme of Nanda Rajjat, a religious and adventurous journey, at Atal Excellent Government Intermediate College Sitel in Nandanagar development block of Chamoli district on Thursday. He said that special care should be taken to conserve the environment during religious pilgrimages. Our ancestors maintained the sanctity of the Himalayas keeping in mind their religious and environmental importance. Also, during travel in this area, human activities were restricted through many rules and ethos, due to which these areas are protected even today. To preserve these areas, along with new rules, lessons should be learned from the experiences and actions of our ancestors. Only then will these prosperous areas survive.

In the program, Om Prakash Bhatt, Managing Trustee of CP Bhatt Environment and Development Center said that Himalayas are the main basis of our religious faith as well as environment. Expressing concern over the ever increasing incidents of forest fire in the central Himalayan region, he said that while many hectares of forest have turned into ashes due to forest fire, many species have become extinct and many are on the verge of extinction. Himalayas are rich in terms of biodiversity and now due to forest fire, it is also going to reach the verge of destruction.

He said that if we do not unite and stop this process, we will have to face serious consequences in the near future. We cannot even imagine how terrible they will be.

Before the beginning of the lecture program organized in the memory of Chipko leader Alam Singh Bisht, the speakers remembered leader Alam Singh and garlanded his portrait and offered flowers. The students present in the lecture were given information about all aspects including the religious significance and history of the Nanda dynasty.

In the program conducted under the chairmanship of the school's principal Rakesh Gaur, Mangala Kothiyal gave information about the work and experiences of the keynote speaker and the program was conducted by Vinay Semwal.
