While addressing the BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised the entire world including China and Russia that war is not the solution to any problem. We support dialogue and diplomacy, not war.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin were also present during Prime Minister Modi's address. Modi also said that I am very grateful to President Putin for excellently organizing the BRICS summit. I am very happy that today we are meeting for the first time as an extended BRICS family. I warmly welcome all the new members and associates joining the BRICS family. This summit is taking place at a time when the world is surrounded by many challenges like war, conflict, economic uncertainty, climate change and terrorism. There is talk of North-South and East-West division in the world. Inflation control, food security, energy security, health security and water security are priority issues for all countries. Besides, in this age of technology, new challenges like cyber security, deep fake and fake news have also emerged. In such a situation, a lot of expectations are being placed from BRICS. I believe that BRICS, as a diverse and inclusive forum, can play a positive role on all issues. Our approach in this regard should be people-centric. We have to give a message to the world that BRICS is not a divisive group but a group of common interests.

brix Inspiring the world for positive cooperation: PM

Prime Minister Modi also said that we have to keep in mind the hopes, aspirations and expectations of the countries of the Global South. The Voice of Global South Summit and G20 Presidency India have put the voices of these countries on the global stage. I am glad that these efforts are gaining momentum within BRICS as well. The BRICS group, a confluence of diverse thoughts and ideologies, is today inspiring the world to move towards positive cooperation. Our diversity, respect for each other and our tradition of moving forward with consensus are the foundation of our cooperation. It is our quality and the 'BRICS spirit' that attracts other countries to this platform. India will always fulfill its responsibility as a founding member of BRICS.
