‘Double attack’ of weather on Uttar Pradesh: Sun disappears, air poisonous, life becomes difficult in Lucknow

Posts

Uttar Pradesh, especially the capital Lucknow, is currently in the grip of such a severe winter that it would not be wrong to call it a ‘tsunami’. The situation is as if the sun has taken a leave and the entire city is in the captivity of dense fog and icy winds. But this time the danger is not just of cold, but the ‘poison’ dissolved in the air is proving to be more dangerous.

Why did the sun disappear?

According to meteorologists, two new ‘Western Disturbances’ have become active one after the other. If understood in simple language, these are winds filled with moisture and cold which cause snowfall on the mountains and create a wall of icy winds and dense fog in the plains. Due to this, sunlight is not able to reach the ground, due to which even during the day one feels cold and dark like night.

‘Breathing crisis’ in Lucknow

The situation in the capital Lucknow is most worrying. Here, along with cold and fog, pollution has broken all records. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has crossed 450, which falls in the ‘severe’ or ‘hazardous’ category.

What does AQI 450 mean?

This simply means that breathing the air of Lucknow is as dangerous as smoking several cigarettes simultaneously. This poisonous air is not only fatal for respiratory patients, children and the elderly, but can also cause serious damage to the lungs of a healthy person. People are facing problems like irritation in eyes, sore throat and difficulty in breathing.

Cold wave broke my back

Due to lack of sunlight throughout the day and continuous icy winds, the entire state is in the grip of severe cold wave. Not only is the night temperature falling, the day temperature has also dropped drastically, due to which people are shivering round the clock.

The Meteorological Department has warned that there is no hope of getting relief from this ‘double attack’ for the next few days. People have been advised to stay indoors, wear warm clothes and avoid going out especially in the morning and evening.
