Women’s Battalion: In view of the rapidly increasing deployment of security forces at airports and other important places, the Central Government has approved the first all-women CISF Reserve Battalion. There will be more than 1000 women employees.
Battalion will be formed from approved personnel
According to officials, the unit will be formed from the existing two lakh sanctioned CISF personnel. The Union Home Ministry has issued its order this week. There will be a total of 1025 women constables headed by a senior commandant rank officer.
CISF currently has 12 reserve battalions.
At present the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has 12 reserve battalions. When CISF is given temporary tasks like conducting elections these battalions are kept in reserve and used as additional forces. It also handles the security of important places like the Parliament House complex, the responsibility of which was handed over to the Parliament this year.
CISF is also engaged in the protection of historical heritage.
The CISF also has a large number of women personnel, who guard 68 public airports, Delhi Metro and historical heritage sites like the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort. According to the Home Ministry, CISF had expressed the need for an all-women reserve battalion, which has been approved recently. Apart from providing anti-terrorist security to many large organizations related to nuclear and aerospace sectors, CISF is also deployed in security of many large private sector entities including Infosys offices in Pune-Bangalore, Reliance Refinery in Jamnagar.
