Every year heat wave kills many people
According to research conducted at Monash University in Australia, 1,53,078 lakh people lose their lives due to heatwaves across the world. Talking about India, every year around 30,000 people lose their lives due to heatwaves in our country. Out of 1.53 lakh deaths, 14 percent occurred in China and 8 percent in Russia.
The research showed that the average number of days of summer increased worldwide between 1999 and 2019. This figure has increased from an average of 13.4 days to 13.7 days. Apart from this, it has also been revealed that the temperature on Earth has increased by .35 degrees Celsius every decade. The researchers said that while previous studies have reported heat wave-related deaths at a local level, you may be surprised to learn that the study did not release data on global deaths.
One in every five deaths in India
The number of deaths due to heat wave in India is higher than in the rest of the world. After India, China and Russia have the highest number of deaths due to heat wave in the world. Heat waves kill 1.53 lakh people every year, 50 percent of which occur in Asia. Whereas in the European continent, 30 percent people become victims of heat wave. Furthermore, the highest estimated mortality rates are observed in dry climates and low-middle income areas.
