News India Live, Digital Desk: Be it Chaitra or Shardiya, devotees worship Goddess Durga with full devotion and strict rules for nine days of Navratri. Many people observe fasting or fruit fast for these nine days. But many times the fast is broken unknowingly, by mistake or due to physical illness. In such a situation, devotees often get scared or start feeling guilty that Mata Rani might get angry. Special solutions for this situation have been suggested in astrology and Puranas. If you break your fast knowingly or unknowingly, then instead of panicking, you can remove your mistake by adopting these simple measures.

Ask for forgiveness from mother and recite ‘Kshama Prarthan’.

According to the scriptures, God is hungry for feelings, not food. If you have eaten something by mistake, then first of all stand with folded hands in front of the idol of Goddess Durga with a calm mind and accept your mistake. It is considered best to recite ‘Aparadha Kshamapana Stotra’ given at the end of Durga Saptashati. By sincerely seeking forgiveness, Mata Rani forgives the unknowing crimes of her devotees.

Purification and bathing with Ganges water

If non-food items (which should not be eaten during the fast) are consumed during the fast, then purification of the body and mind is necessary. For this, take bath again and mix some Ganga water in water and do Achaman. Sprinkle Ganga water in the entire house. This removes the negativity from the environment and the mind and you become ready for worship again.

Anointment and adornment of idols

To remove the defect of breaking the fast, it is auspicious to anoint the idol or picture of Maa Durga with Ganga water or Panchamrit. After this, offer red chunari, fruits and flowers to the mother. By offering decorative items to the Mother Goddess, she becomes happy and the sorrow from the mind of the seeker goes away.

Charity and Brahmin feast

In Hindu religion, charity is considered the greatest atonement. If your fast is broken, then donate food, clothes or money to a needy person as per your capacity. You can feed a Brahmin or feed fodder to a cow. By donating, the sins committed unknowingly are destroyed and the virtuous results of the fast are reaped.

Havan and chanting of mantras

As an atonement, you can perform a small havan at home. Chanting a rosary of the mantra “Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundayai Vicche” also gives peace to the mind and re-awakens the resolve to fast. Remember, in devotion, ’emotion’ is more important than purity. If the mind is clean and the mistake is unintentional, the Goddess never gets angry.
