The number of aircraft owned by local airlines will increase to 1400 in the next 5 years. Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmeng Vulnam gave this information on Thursday. He also said that in the last 10 years the number of airports in the country has also increased from 74 to 157. Describing the growth prospects of the country’s aviation sector as good, he said the local airlines currently have around 800 aircraft in their fleet and major airlines IndiGo and Air India have placed several orders for these aircraft, PTI reported. ,
The number of passengers doubled to approximately 22 crores.
According to reports, at an event in the national capital the secretary also discussed opportunities for women in the aviation sector, including the drone segment. He also said that the number of passengers has doubled from 11 crore to about 22 crore. The Secretary was speaking at the ‘Giving Wings to Dreams Awards 2024’ organized by Women in Aviation India in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
According to the secretary, the Rs 120 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme was successful and the total turnover of the beneficiary companies increased to Rs 1,400 crore. The first PLI scheme for drones, launched in 2021 with an outlay of Rs 120 crore for three financial years starting from financial year 2021-22, has ended.
Airlines companies have placed huge orders in the last few days
Tata Group-controlled Air India has ordered another 85 aircraft from Airbus, including 10 A350 aircraft. Earlier in the last one year, Air India has ordered 840 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. This year, the country’s largest airline Indigo has ordered 30 wide body A350-900 aircraft. The company has the option to buy 70 more such aircraft. IndiGo, which has been active for about 17 years, currently operates 350 narrowbody aircraft.
