Kolkata, 21 November (HS). The Joint Platform of Doctors (JPD), a senior doctors’ organization of West Bengal, has sought the intervention of the state government to end the ongoing “irregularities” in the West Bengal Medical Council.

JPD joint convenors Punyabrata Gun and Hiralal Konar have sent a letter to Chief Secretary Manoj Pant to discuss the issue.

The doctors’ organization has claimed in the letter that the transfer orders of doctors are “unethical” and “inhumane”, which are contrary to the provisions of the National Medical Council (NMC). Such orders are raising fears of resurgence of “bullying culture” in the state’s health sector.

The organization has also alleged that the state health department’s silence on disciplinary action against doctors involved in “bullying culture” has led to a decline in mutual trust. Earlier, the higher administration had promised to restore confidence in the interest of all stakeholders in the health sector.

Meanwhile, the ongoing dispute between two doctor-leaders of Trinamool Congress has further complicated the matter.

Trinamool Congress MLA and State Medical Council Chairman has written a letter to Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam demanding the removal of former Rajya Sabha MP and Trinamool leader Shantanu Sen from the post of nominated member of the council.

This controversy deepened when in August R.G. Sen launched a scathing attack on a section of the state’s health system after the rape and murder of a female junior doctor of Kar Medical College and Hospital.

After this R.G. The matter became more serious during the investigation of financial irregularities in Kar Medical College. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the college and also checked the residence and office of the council chairman.

JPD said that due to these incidents, there has been a major blow to the mutual trust between the administration and doctors in the medical field. This organization of doctors has demanded that the state government should immediately intervene and solve these problems.
