Doctors on strike in Chandigarh today, no new patients will be seen in PGI OPD | News India

Chandigarh News: Three major institutes of Chandigarh PGI Resident doctors in Government College and Hospital 32 (GMCH), Government Multi Specialty Hospital 16 (GMSH) are on strike today. Due to which today Chandigarh New cards will not be made for OPD in PGI. If an elderly patient comes for follow-up, he will be seen by a senior doctor and consultant. Doctors of 32 government medical colleges and hospitals will be on strike from 1 pm. OPD services will end by then.

The striking resident doctors are protesting against the Kolkata incident where a female doctor was raped and murdered in a medical college. The doctors are demanding that her family be given justice and the case be investigated by the CBI. Strict laws should be made for the safety of resident doctors in the country.

Doctors across the country are demanding immediate implementation of CPA or similar law in the country to ensure safety. There should be a proper and transparent investigation of the Kolkata case. Also, the responsible officials of the medical college should also resign. Chandigarh PGI Medical Officer Dr. Vipan Kaushal said that in view of the strike, all available resources have been mobilized so that patient services are not affected. Emergency operation theater services, ICU services and other emergency services will continue as normal.
