According to a report by The Guardian, more bacteria are found on gym equipment than toilet seats. Gym equipment contains 362 times more bacteria than a toilet seat, while treadmills contain 74 times more germs than a public bathroom tap, which can wreak havoc on your health. Actually, gym equipment is used by different people from time to time. Also, during this time, a lot of sweat also flows from the body, which contains many types of germs. This leads to the growth of a lot of bacteria on the surface of gym equipment which is used interchangeably.

Gym equipment is harmful to health

According to this research conducted by Fitrate, the surface of gym equipment has a higher number of bacteria than other surfaces, which poses many health risks. Apart from this, most of the bacteria are found in treadmills, bicycles and gyms because these equipments are used a lot in gyms.

Fitrated creative team member Chelsea Freeburn says gym equipment is frequently used by the public and bacteria can grow rapidly if not thoroughly cleaned before and after use. The same problem occurs when shaking hands with a person drenched in sweat. The risk of skin infection from all of these identified bacteria is high, so many gyms provide disinfectant wipes for use.

Take these precautions after going to the gym

Gym trainer Mukul Nagpal says gym goers should take care of cleanliness, which includes disinfecting gym equipment before and after use. Also, hands should be washed thoroughly after exercise to avoid infection with harmful bacteria. After leaving the gym, you should still shower and wear your gym clothes.
