The festival of Diwali, dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, is coming soon. This major festival is celebrated on the new moon day of Kartik month. This year Diwali will be celebrated on two days i.e. 31st October and 1st November 2024 and most of the people would like to celebrate it on 31st October.
During Diwali, people worship Goddess Lakshmi and seek her blessings for continued good luck and prosperity. Today, on 18th October, the month of Kartik is starting, which is considered very auspicious. Since it is Friday, which is the favorite day of Goddess Lakshmi, devotees start cleaning their houses, as it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi resides only in cleanliness. From today till Diwali, some special rituals are performed every night before sleeping, which are considered to be an invitation to Goddess Lakshmi to bless the home.

Goddess Lakshmi loves cleanliness
Make sure the front door is clean before sleeping, as she doesn't like dirty places. If necessary, clean the area even without using a broom. Also, any flowers used in the morning puja should not be left in the puja room overnight and they should be removed before nightfall.
Make sure there is water in the Kalash (sacred vessel)
After the evening Aarti, fill the Kalash or any vessel with clean water, because the Kalash should not be left empty in the puja room.
