News India Live, Digital Desk: if your eyes JEE Advanced 2026 If you are stuck on this, then this article is no less than a roadmap for you. We all know that getting a seat in IIT, and that too in your favorite branch (like Computer Science), is like climbing Mount Everest. But if there is a right strategy, Everest can also be conquered.
Today we will talk about that reality, without knowing which starting preparation is like shooting an arrow in the dark. Let us decode the game of syllabus and rank.
Syllabus: What to read and what to skip?
The JEE Advanced syllabus is an ocean, but you just have to pick the pearls. IIT Guwahati (or whoever conducts that year) usually doesn’t make major changes in the syllabus, but you should keep an eye on the ‘latest pattern’.
- Physics: Here mere rote learning will not suffice. The pulse of mechanics and electromagnetism will have to be caught.
- Chemistry: In inorganic, consider NCERT as the scriptures and in physical chemistry, practice is everything.
- Maths: Calculus and Vector-3D are the parts which can get you a good rank.
Download the PDF of the syllabus from the official website and paste a printout in front of your study table.
CSE craze and rank tussle
Every student has a dream-Computer Science (CSE) from IIT Bombay to do. But the reality is that the general category seats here are approx. Top 60-70 Rank But then they stop. Yes, one has to be in the top 100 all over India.
- IIT Delhi: Here also the closing rank of Computer Science often hovers around 115-120.
- IIT Madras & Kanpur: If your rank is within 250, then there is still hope.
Remember, Opening and Closing Rank Every year the performance of the students and the toughness of the paper varies, but the competition for top IITs never decreases.
Cutoff Marks: Passing is not enough
Merely clearing the cutoff does not get you admission in IIT, it just makes you eligible for counselling.
For admission you have to Aggregate Marks Along with this, minimum marks have to be obtained in every subject (subject-wise). Many times it happens that the overall marks are very good, but 1 mark is less in Maths or Physics, and IIT is lost.
What to do next now?
Friends, 2026 may seem far away, but time flies on wings. Divide your preparation topic-wise. Make the ‘Previous Year Questions’ (PYQs) of the last 10 years your Gita. And yes, don’t just study, study smart. See which chapter has more questions and which has less weightage.
The destination is difficult, but not impossible. Just set a right target (Rank) in your mind and get started.
