Do not make this mistake even by mistake on Rakshabandhan: From black Rakhi to God’s photo, know which Rakshasutra is auspicious and which is inauspicious for brother.

Rakshabandhan, the festival of unwavering love and trust between brothers and sisters, holds a special place in Indian culture. On this day, sisters tie Raksha Sutra on their brother’s wrist, wishing for his long life, happiness, prosperity and success. These days, the market is full of Rakhis with various fancy designs, different colors and pictures. However, according to the scriptures and Vedic astrology, tying any kind of Rakhi is not considered right. Rakshasutra is not just a thread but forms a protective shield around the brother. Rakhi made of wrong colour, inauspicious symbols or inappropriate material can hinder brother’s progress and cause negative energy.

Do not tie these 4 types of inauspicious Rakhis even by mistake

In astrology, tying certain types of Rakhis on the wrist is completely prohibited and considered inauspicious:

  • Black Rakhi: Black color is considered a symbol of negativity, stress and inauspicious shadow of Saturn-Rahu in astrology. One should avoid tying Rakhi with black thread or black beads to brother on auspicious occasions and the holy festival of Rakshabandhan.

  • Rakhi with picture or idol of God: Nowadays, Rakhis with pictures and idols of Lord Ganesha, Krishna or Shiva are quite popular in the market. According to religious beliefs, if Rakhi breaks, falls or becomes impure from the hand, the image of God is disrespected, which is considered faulty.

  • Fractured or broken Rakhi: If the Rakhi thread is torn somewhere, the beads are scattered or any part is damaged, then it should never be used as a Rakshasutra. Use of broken objects is prohibited in worship and protection rituals.

  • Rakhis with sharp, plastic or unwanted symbols: Tying rakhis containing leather, excessive plastic, sharp metals or inauspicious symbols (e.g. skulls, violent images) can increase unrest and stress in the brother’s life.

Which Rakshasutra is most auspicious to tie on brother’s wrist?

According to the scriptures, red, yellow, orange (saffron) and pink colors are symbols of positive energy, the auspiciousness of the Sun and Lord Jupiter. Rakhi made of red or yellow silk thread, Kalava (Mauli), pure gold-silver metal or Akshat (rice grains) and sandalwood beads are considered the best. If it has auspicious Vedic symbols like Swastika, Om or Kalash, then it brings good luck, health and continuous progress in the life of the brother.
