
Serbia’s 37-year-old tennis star Novak Djokovic reached the 50th Grand Slam semi-final of his career by defeating 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open men’s singles. Djokovic, heading for a record 25th Grand Slam, also reached the 300 mark at Melbourne Park.
In the men’s quarterfinals, Djokovic defeated Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 after battling for three hours and 37 minutes after losing the first set. With this, Djokovic has also reached the last-4 of Australian Open for the 12th time. Between the two, Djokovic has a record of five wins and three losses. Djokovic will next face second-seeded Alexander Zverev, who reached his ninth Grand Slam semi-final with a 7-6 (1), 7-6 (0), 2-6, 6-1 win over Tommy Paul. Djokovic’s record against German Zverev in Grand Slams is 8–4 and 3–0. The two last met in the 2021 quarterfinals in Melbourne, which Djokovic won in four sets.
