There is a lot of enthusiasm about celebrating Diwali not only in India but also in America. The festival of Diwali has now taken the form of a big festival in America. There is excitement especially in New York because for the first time in New York, schools are closed on Diwali.
This information was given by Dilip Chauhan, working as Deputy Commissioner in the New York City Mayor's Office. He said that this time's Diwali is special. For the first time in history, New York schools will be closed on Diwali. There will be Diwali holiday in schools tomorrow on 1st November. There is a celebratory atmosphere in Texas too. One reason is that for the first time people will be able to legally purchase fireworks in Harris County, Texas. The Harris County Commissioners Court upheld the change in September after a 2023 state law declaring Diwali a 'firework-eligible holiday.'

Jewelery shops in Houston witnessed a huge rush to buy gold on Dhanteras on Tuesday. Queues formed outside local shops to buy gold bars, coins and jewellery. Sweet shops were also busy. Local Indian sweet shops selling traditional sweets including laddu and barfi.
Shopkeepers are gearing up for busy business on Diwali
Houston retailers are expecting heavy business in the last few days of Diwali this year. Four fireworks stores have also opened in Houston from October 25, which will continue till November 1. The festival of Diwali has become a new customer segment for local firecrackers.
