Bhilwara, September 14 (HS). Under Rajasthan Jal Mahotsav-2024, a district level program was organized with great enthusiasm at Meja Dam on Saturday. The purpose of this festival was to spread awareness about water storage and conservation. MLA Ashok Kothari, District Collector Namit Mehta, and District Council CEO Chandrabhan Singh Bhati along with other dignitaries attended the program.
The ceremony started with a prayer and chanting of mantras, which was performed by MLA Ashok Kothari, District Collector Namit Mehta, and Zila Parishad CEO Chandrabhan Singh Bhati. After this, school students performed cultural folk dances, demonstrating the importance of water. Women sang Mangal Geet and Bhajan singers enthralled the audience with devotional music. Along with this, quiz and sports competitions were organized, in which the winners were awarded.
In his address, District Collector Namit Mehta highlighted the importance of Jal Mahotsav and said, water has been considered sacred in Rajasthan for centuries and its conservation is a part of our culture. Due to good rainfall this year, more than 250 ponds and dams in the state are overflowing, which is a sign of nature's grace. He said that under Jal Jeevan Mission, water connections have reached every house, but we will have to conserve traditional water sources as well.
MLA Ashok Kothari said, “Nature returns many times more to us than it gives us. Water conservation is the responsibility of every person and we should keep water sources clean and encroachment free.” He administered an oath to everyone not to pollute water and air.
Those present at the ceremony took an oath that they would not pollute ponds and rivers and would play an active role in water conservation. Also, a pledge was taken to take responsibility for cleaning and preserving traditional water sources.
Along with this district level program organized at Meja Dam, Jal Mahotsav programs were also organized at other filled water reservoirs of the district. Festivals were also organized in many Gram Panchayats and villages. The main objective of this festival was to express gratitude towards nature and highlight the importance of water conservation.
Pradhan Shankar Lal Kumawat, Superintending Engineer Soji Pratihar, Executive Engineer CL Koli, Himanshu Mandia, AEN Abbas Ali Khan, Hemraj, Sarpanch Chhotu Singh, MP Singh, and other dignitaries were present in the program. Also, students of various schools, teachers, and city and village residents were present in large numbers.
