District judge sentenced two accused in ganja smuggling case to ten years of rigorous imprisonment – ​​News India Live | News India

Araria, 24 September (HS). District and Sessions Judge of Araria Harshit Singh convicted two smugglers in a ganja smuggling case two years ago and sentenced them to ten years of rigorous imprisonment each.

Along with this, the court ordered to deposit one lakh rupees as fine. In its decision, both the convicts were also directed to undergo additional imprisonment of three months each if the fine amount is not deposited. The District Judge pronounced this sentence on Tuesday in special NDPS case number- 18/2022.

Both the convicts who got punishment are residents of Fulkaha police station area of ​​the district. One convict, 49-year-old Deepchand Yadav, son of Bechan Yadav, is a resident of Bhawanipur. The other convict, 45-year-old Umesh Yadav, son of Ramrup Yadav, is a resident of Achara.

The court convicted both the accused under Section 20 (B), 11 (C) of NDPS. The case is related to Fulkaha police station area and its informant is Assistant Sub Inspector Ugen Bhutia of SSB and on the basis of the FIR lodged by him, Fulkaha Police Station Case No. 66/2022 was registered. The date of the incident is 1:10 am on 18 June 2022, when a total of 102 kg of ganja was recovered in three bags of the accused in Fulkaha, about 150 meters from Manikpur India Nepal border pillar number -189/05, which they were throwing away and running away. Both the accused were arrested at the scene of the incident. Although the FIR was lodged against a total of five persons, the other three being Bulbul Yadav, Bablu Yadav and an unknown person from Dewanganj, Nepal, the investigator stated in the charge sheet submitted to the court that these persons could not be traced during the investigation and yet the investigation against them was kept pending.

While hearing on the point of punishment, senior advocates Dev Narayan Sen and Raj Narayan Singh pleaded the court to give the minimum punishment. While on behalf of the prosecution, special public prosecutor Ashok Kumar Mishra argued for a sentence in accordance with law. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court decided the punishment for both the accused.
