District administration alert regarding Jitiya festival in Patna: Strict security arrangements, divers and SDRF deployed at Ganga ghats.

The district administration in the capital Patna has become completely alert regarding the Jitiya festival, which is one of the major festivals of Bihar. Keeping in mind the rising water level of rivers and the safety of devotees, Patna district administration has issued strict instructions to tighten security arrangements at all the major Ganga ghats. During this sacred ritual which will run from 2nd to 4th October, lakhs of women and devotees reach the river ghats for bathing and worship, for which the administration has decided not to take any kind of negligence.

District Magistrate Kundan Kumar has directed all the concerned departments and officers to keep security, crowd management and preparations for rescue operations on top priority during the festival. All officers at sub-division, block and police level have been asked to continuously patrol the ghats in their respective areas and keep a close watch on the situation.

In view of Jitiya festival, deployment of adequate number of magistrates, police officers and security forces is being ensured at all the major and sensitive ghats of Patna. Officers have also been instructed to check the attendance of the deployed personnel from time to time. Along with this, dangerous areas with deep water will be identified and strong barricades will be installed there and clear red flags will be placed so that devotees do not unknowingly go into deep water.

The administration will encourage devotees to take bath and worship in safe areas only. For this, safety related instructions, warnings and precautions will be continuously broadcast through loudspeakers on the ghats. Instructions have been given to take special precautions regarding the safety of children and the elderly so that any untoward incident can be avoided.

Deployment of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and trained divers has already been ensured at major ghats to deal with any emergency. Additionally, medical teams equipped with life-saving medicines and medical equipment will be present at the ghats for immediate treatment in case of a medical emergency. The district administration has also instructed local primary health centers and sub-divisional hospitals to remain on full alert mode. The District Magistrate has appealed to all the devotees to celebrate their festival with full faith and devotion while staying within the safe limits set by the administration.
