Oberoi family dispute: There is a dispute over property in the Oberoi family, which has a billion-dollar empire. This fight between two sisters of the Oberoi family has reached the court. After the death of Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi in November 2023, both the sisters are fighting for a share in the Oberoi hotel empire.

The main reason for the inheritance dispute is Anastasia Oberoi, PRS Oberoi's daughter from his second marriage. It is opposing the asset divestment, including a significant stake in the Oberoi Group's flagship company EIH Ltd. Stepbrother Vikramjit Oberoi, stepsister Natasha Oberoi and cousins Arjun Oberoi and Anastasia Oberoi are fighting over the inheritance.

Why the controversy?

The Oberoi family's dispute hinges on two wills – one made in 1992 and the other in 2021. In addition, the dispute was further complicated by a codicil dated August 27, 2022. A codicil is an amendment to a will that allows changes or modifications to be made without rewriting the will. Anastasia claims that the codicil was her father's last wish.

Who needs how much?

Anastasia's half-siblings Vikramjit, Natasha and cousin Arjun Oberoi claim priority in the 1992 will. They have claimed that their share of shares were held in trust. While Anastasia accepts the 2021 will and the codicil issued with it and is appealing for distribution of inheritance accordingly.

Important decision of Delhi High Court

Anastasia's main claim is on the properties of the Oberoi Group, including the family home in Kapashera, Delhi. The Delhi High Court has issued an interim order in her favour, prohibiting the transfer of any shares or property belonging to the Oberoi Group until the matter is resolved.

Controversy between Natasha Oberoi and Anastasia

Anastasia's half-sister Natasha Oberoi is a key player in the family's hospitality business. She has also made a name for herself in the wine industry. In 2002 she founded Chinkara Wines, which produces premium wines from grapes grown in Australia for export to Southeast Asian markets, including India, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The role of Natasha

Like Anastasia, Natasha is also a director in several Oberoi Group companies, including Oberoi Hotels Private Limited, Oberoi Holdings Private Limited and Oberoi Properties Private Limited, carrying forward the family legacy and building a strong empire.
