Kathua, August 20 (HS). Additional District Development Commissioner Kathua Surinder Mohan Sharma chaired a meeting to discuss the modalities for smooth implementation of leprosy detection campaign under National Leprosy Eradication Programme in the district.
During the meeting, Chief Medical Officer Kathua Dr Vijay Raina briefed the participants about the campaign schedule. He informed that district level training for officials is scheduled on August 22, followed by block level training for workers on August 23 and 24. The main phase of the campaign which includes physical check-up will run from September 2 to September 15. During this 14-day period, teams of the medical department supported by ICDS department workers and revenue staff including Lambardars and Chowkidars will visit every household in the district to identify suspected leprosy cases. Block medical officers have been assigned the task to monitor the campaign in their respective areas to ensure comprehensive coverage. Besides, a district level control room will be set up at the CMO office for monitoring and coordination.
The ADDC asked the Chief Education Officer Kathua to direct the principals and heads of institutions to create awareness among students and staff about the upcoming health check-up. This in turn will encourage families to cooperate with the teams conducting the screening, he said. The ADDC also directed the ACRs to mobilize revenue officials to create awareness about the campaign in their respective areas while ensuring public cooperation. He also emphasized on the role of the Information Department in promoting the campaign through social and print media so that the public is well informed. ADDC Sharma emphasized the importance of not leaving anyone behind in the identification process, with special focus on high-risk areas, particularly areas with concentration of laborers. Earlier in the meeting, Regional Leprosy Officer Dr. Sushma highlighted that this flagship campaign is being implemented specifically in Kathua district. The meeting also discussed the involvement of Panchayati Raj Institutions, private practitioners, NGOs and other community stakeholders to ensure successful accomplishment of the objectives of the campaign. BMOs of Billawar, Nagri and Basohli, DSWOs, CDPO Barnoti and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
