Discussion between India and Russia regarding North Sea Route, this route will become a game changer

The CEO of Russia's state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom has revealed that India and Russia are in talks to jointly develop thermonuclear fusion and the Northern Sea Route. The Northern Sea Route connects the eastern and western ends of the Arctic Ocean and could prove to be a game changer in terms of maritime trade. Rosatom CEO A. I. Likhacheva also said that cooperation between India and Russia in the field of nuclear technology is also likely to increase in the future and will focus on non-energy and non-nuclear sectors.

Northern Sea Route will prove to be a game changer

Likhacheva said that discussions are being held between India and Russia to jointly develop the Northern Sea Route. At present, Russian company Rosatom is working on developing this route. With the help of this route, Russian oil, coal and LNG will be able to reach India quickly. Besides, through this route the distance between Asia and Europe will also be reduced by several thousand kilometers. Likhacheva learned that we are examining options for cooperation on the framework of the Euro-Asian container transit project.

Sea trade time will be reduced

Now international trade between West and East takes place through the West-East transit route. Its distance is 21 thousand kilometers and it takes about a month to send goods from Asia to Europe through this route. After the development of the Northern Sea Route, this distance will reduce to 13 thousand kilometers and it will take only 2 weeks to send goods instead of one month. The Northern Sea Route will boost trade activities and also have a positive impact on the economy.

There is great potential for cooperation in the nuclear sector between India and Russia.

Likhacheva said that there is also a lot of potential for cooperation in the nuclear sector between India and Russia. He said that during the construction of Kudankulam Atomic Power Station, both the countries got a lot of experience of working together. Likhacheva had visited the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu last month. This nuclear power plant is being built with the help of Russia. Likhacheva said Indian companies are also involved in the construction of the nuclear power plant being built by Rosatom in Rooppur, Bangladesh.
