New Delhi: Delhi Government has announced monthly financial assistance of Rs 5000 thousand to specially eligible disabled persons. This decision has been approved in the cabinet meeting of Delhi government on Monday.
Social Welfare Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed that Delhi is the first state to do so. He said that those who have a medical certificate confirming more than 60 percent disability will be eligible. The registration process for eligible persons will start soon.
How many disabled people still get pension?
At present Delhi government gives monthly pension to 1.20 lakh disabled people. This includes those disabled who have the disability certificate for more than 42 months. They get Rs 2500 per month from the government.
Now the government has decided to provide additional financial assistance to specially abled persons with high qualifications. This decision will benefit 10 thousand disabled people.
How many people are in the category of disabled?
It has been told by the government that instructions have been given to implement it immediately. According to the 2011 census, more than 2.44 lakh people in Delhi fall under the category of disabled.
According to World Health Organization data, their number is around 9,500 to 10,000, who are called 'Persons with High Special Needs'.
At present, Delhi government gives pension to 1,20,000 disabled people, who are more than 42 percent disabled. Their medical certificate and UDID card is made, which entitles them to pension.
BJP MLAs will protest if senior citizens are not given pension
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Vijendra Gupta has written a letter to the Social Welfare Minister of Delhi, demanding to accept the old age pension applications pending for the last seven years and said that if the government accepts new applications, then at least 80 thousand people will get the pension. Can get pension. He said that at present the maximum limit of Delhi's Old Age Pension Scheme is 5.30 lakh beneficiaries. The number of beneficiaries has not increased for the last seven years.
He had also raised this issue in the Assembly. The department sent them a letter informing them that new applications are not being accepted as the prescribed capacity limit of beneficiaries has been reached. He claimed that at present five lakh new applications are pending with the government. About 80 senior citizens among the pensioners have either died or left Delhi. In their place, 80 thousand more senior citizens can get pension. He said that if the government does not accept their demand within 24 hours, then BJP will protest with senior MLAs.
