Diljit, who was in controversy for writing ‘Punjab’ instead of ‘Punjab’ in his post, has now given clarification. Diljit wrote in the post, ‘If mention of the flag along with Punjab has been left out in any tweet, then it is a conspiracy… Even in Bengaluru’s tweet, there is only one space left to mention the flag. And if ‘Punjab’ is written then it is a conspiracy. Write Punjab as ‘Punjab’ or ‘Punjab’, but Punjab will remain Punjab.

How many times do I have to prove that I love India?

Explaining the meaning of the word Punjab in his post, Diljit wrote, ‘Panj Aab means 5 rivers. Well done to those who conspired to write the white language in English! Apart from this, he also shared a screenshot of one of his old posts along with his post. In which he has also added an emoji of the tricolor flag with ‘Chandigarh, Punjab’. In this he has written Punjab as ‘PANJAB’. Diljit also shared another screenshot in which he wrote ‘Punjab’ in the name of ‘Punjab University’.

Why was there controversy over Diljit’s post?

Diljit, who reached Punjab for the concert, shared a video of his arrival on social media platform X. In the caption, he wrote ‘Punjab’ with a map pointer emoji. Actually, India and Pakistan were divided in 1947. At that time Punjab was also divided into two parts. Punjab, which is now part of Pakistan, is spelled ‘PANJAB’ in English. And Punjab, which is a part of India, is written as ‘Punjab’. The Punjab University that Diljit has mentioned with the spelling ‘Punjab’ in his new post was actually in Lahore before partition. But later he was transferred to Chandigarh. Due to the sentiments associated with the name, the spelling of Punjab was kept as ‘PANJAB’.
