The 90s were very magical in Bollywood, where stars would reach the heights overnight with just one song or film. Something similar happened with famous actress Sonam Khan, whose fortunes changed overnight with the superhit song ‘Oye Oye’ (Tirchi Topi Wale) from the 1989 blockbuster film ‘Tridev’. In this song, she was seen dancing with veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. However, along with this great success, a rumor also arose which haunted him for years. Now after almost 40 years, Sonam Khan herself has revealed this secret.
‘At the time of shooting, we both had different partners’
Actually, this rumor was floating in the corridors for a long time that due to her affair with ‘Tridev’ director Rajeev Rai, Sonam got more screen time and this famous song than other heroines in the film. This was also accepted as true because later both of them got married in 1991. But Sonam Khan has completely rejected these rumors by sharing a clip of the song on her Instagram. The actress revealed that while the shooting of the film was going on, both of them were in a relationship with someone else. Rajiv was committed to his girlfriend and Sonam also had a boyfriend of her own, who used to come to the sets often.
The director did not even want to cast in the film
Sonam Khan made another shocking revelation and said that actually director Rajeev Rai did not want to cast her in this film. Rajiv had seen some scenes of Sonam in the film ‘Vijay’, which he did not like and he had almost finalized another actress. But when there was no other option left at the last moment, Sonam was cast under compulsion. The actress clearly said that neither were there any secret calls on the set nor was there any romance. He got this song not because of any favoritism or kindness, but only because of his work. After both of them were single, they started dating long after the release of the film.
Married at the age of 19 and the struggle started again
Rajeev Rai and Sonam Khan got married in the year 1991, when Sonam was just 19 years old. Shortly after marriage, he said goodbye to the film world for his family and the treatment of his autistic son. For better treatment of his son, he had to wander for years in London, Los Angeles and different countries of Europe. Amidst this tough struggle, there was a rift in the relationship between Rajiv and Sonam and they separated in the year 2001, after which they officially got divorced in 2016. Now Sonam Khan has returned to India with her son and is connected with her fans through social media.
