Ravindra Jadeja was not included in the team: The Indian team has been announced for the three-match ODI and T20 series to be held in Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the Indian team for the T20 series. While Rohit Sharma has been given the command for the ODI series. Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain for both the T20 and ODI series. But this time left-handed all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja did not get a place in the ODI team. After India won the T20 World Cup last month, 'Sir' Jadeja announced his retirement from T20I. However, after this Jadeja made it clear that he will continue to give his best for the country in ODI and Test formats.
Akshar-Sundar have emerged as Jadeja's replacement
The BCCI has not clarified whether Ravindra Jadeja has been released or rested. However, it is believed that the selectors have focused their attention on other options. In limited overs matches, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel have emerged as alternatives to Jadeja. Axar performed brilliantly in the T20 World Cup 2024. Axar pulled India out of trouble by playing a stormy innings of 47 runs in the World Cup final. At the same time, Washington Sundar impressed everyone in the recent T20 series against Zimbabwe. He took 8 wickets with off-break bowling. While Ravindra Jadeja's performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 was not special.
Jadeja is currently battling an injury
Ravindra Jadeja was also a part of the Cricket World Cup 2024 held in India last year. In the year 2023, Jadeja played 23 ODIs in which he scored 309 runs at an average of 30.90. Talking about bowling, he took 31 wickets at an economy rate of 4.60. Last year he got a lot of opportunities in ODIs and overall his performance in ODI cricket was good. Jadeja is currently struggling with injuries. Due to which his fielding is also affected. In such a situation, the selectors have decided to give Jadeja a chance only in Test cricket.
