Dhoni is no longer the number one captain, Kohli missed but Rohit Sharma broke this record

T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma had a great start to the T20 World Cup. Barring a shoulder injury, the Indian captain put up an all-round performance against Ireland at the Nassau Cricket Stadium in New York. Rohit took the right decision to bowl first after winning the toss and then chased down the target with a brilliant half-century to help India get off to a winning start to the T20 World Cup. Rohit scored 52 runs off 37 balls (the only player to cross the 50-run mark on the newly-built ground).

During this, he hit 3 sixes, although he had to stay out of the field due to pain in his left shoulder. His innings laid the foundation for India's easy victory by eight wickets. Rohit made many historical records in this match. He became the first cricketer to hit 600 sixes in international cricket. Rohit's number of sixes in 427 matches is still 600. After him comes Chris Gayle (553 sixes in 483 matches) and Shahid Afridi (476 sixes in 524 matches).

Rohit also crossed the 4000-run mark in T20 Internationals and became the second batsman after Virat Kohli to score more than 4000 runs in all three formats of the game. Rohit also became the second Indian after Kohli to score 1000 runs in T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli missed, Rohit Sharma left MS Dhoni behind

When Rishabh Pant hit the winning six, Rohit also became India's most successful T20 captain. He surpassed MS Dhoni's number of wins as captain in T20Is. Rohit now has 42 wins as captain in 55 T20Is. Which surpassed Dhoni's 41 out of 73 (excluding super over wins). Rohit's win percentage (77.29) is also much higher than Dhoni (59.28). Kohli has registered 30 wins in 50 T20 matches as captain. Talking about the most wins in international matches, this record is in the name of Pakistan's Babar Azam, who has won 46 matches for the team in 81 matches.
