Mumbai: There is a buzz in the political circles of Maharashtra that the state's Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be made the next national president of BJP. According to the buzz, Fadnavis will be given the charge of the party's national working president till the Maharashtra assembly elections and will be made the full president later.

The tenure of the current BJP national president J.P. Nadda has ended. After this, the names of many leaders including Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Bhupendra Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan and Vinod Tawde came forward as his successor.

However, now the name of Devendra Fadnavis has come up in this race. According to sources, Fadnavis is a resident of Nagpur and is also a favourite of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Because of this, he is being considered a strong contender as the new president.

Earlier, Nitin Gadkari, originally from Nagpur, has become the national president of BJP. After a long time, Fadnavis will be taken to the national level.

According to Maharashtra BJP circles, Fadnavis may resign from the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the coming days and go to Delhi to take over as BJP President full-time. The other possibility is that Fadnavis will be given the status of working president till the Maharashtra assembly elections are over and after the elections he will be made full-time president. In case Fadnavis becomes the national president at the time of the assembly elections, the workers disappointed by the results of the Lok Sabha elections can be infused with new enthusiasm.

It is worth noting that after the poor performance of BJP in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections, Fadnavis himself had offered to resign from the post of Deputy CM and said that now he wants to focus his full attention on the organization. However, Modi Mandal asked him to remain Deputy CM. After the meeting of Fadnavis family with Prime Minister Narendra Modi a few days ago, speculations of him being made the national president have intensified.

If Fadnavis is shifted to Delhi, there is also a debate on whether his rival in the Maharashtra BJP, Vinod Tawde, the current Bihar in-charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party, will be brought back to Maharashtra.
