Haryana Assembly Elections: The results of Haryana Assembly, far from being shocking, are not surprising either. Especially on the issue of farmers, Congress was very aggressive on BJP and even said that if Congress government is formed in Haryana, then the borders of Haryana will be opened for the farmers sitting at Shambhu border to go to Delhi for their demands. This strategy was especially made to oust the Jat community from BJP.
On one hand, it is being seen that the farmers of Haryana are angry with BJP, so this time the farmers will teach a lesson to BJP. But seeing the way the results have come now, I don't think the farmers were angry.
Were the farmers really worried?
The second biggest issue in the Haryana elections was 'jawan', an issue the Congress directly linked to Agniveer, as about 10 per cent of the Army's soldiers are from Haryana. Whereas the population of Haryana is around 3 crores. Not only this, the issue of farmers and soldiers is related to every household in Haryana. Congress described the central government's 'Agniveer Yojana' as the biggest betrayal of the soldiers. However, in the Lok Sabha elections also, Congress had raised the same issue across the country. BJP-Congress won 5-5 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana.
Thus, the issue of soldiers and farmers was most prominent in Haryana. The issue of farmers is also in Punjab. But BJP is not in the race there. Then if BJP government is formed in Haryana for the third time, then it proves that the anger being expressed about the soldiers and farmers was wrong.
Acceptance of Agniveer scheme increased
Actually, just before the Haryana elections, BJP has made a slight change in its strategy, in the last few days, BJP has announced to increase the amount of Kisan Samman Nidhi from Rs 6 to Rs 10. Apart from this, on the fire fighter issue, BJP promised to provide permanent employment to every fire fighter in Haryana. This sent a message among the people that if we are getting permanent jobs then there is no reason to be angry with BJP.
In such a situation, it can be said that BJP has got public support on the issue of Agniveer and farmers and now BJP is investing it in other states of the country also. Along with this, the acceptability of Agniveer Yojana has also increased and the demands for which the farmers are agitating will also have to be considered.
