Congress high command: After performing better than expected in the Lok Sabha elections, all is not well in the Congress party in Maharashtra. According to sources, there is a crisis looming in the party. About 16 Congress leaders have written a letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge for a meeting. In the letter written on June 16, it has been asked to focus on the organizational structure in Mumbai, increase coordination among party workers, discuss strategic recommendations and proposals.
Congress sources said that a group of senior leaders wants the party leadership to remove Varsha Gaikwad from the post of Mumbai Congress President. The letter has also been signed by senior leader Chandrakant Handore (CWC member) and Maharashtra Congress Working President Arif Naseem Khan and Maharashtra Congress Treasurer Dr. Amarjeet Manhas. Former Mumbai Congress President JC Chandurkar is also included in this list.
A senior leader who wrote the letter was quoted as saying that he wanted Gaikwad removed from the post so that the Congress could take its recent success further. He said, “He has not been able to build the organisation. Some people have suggested some measures to improve the performance of the Congress, but their suggestions have been ignored. There has been no communication. He does what he wants. As a result, there has been a division within the party. If this continues, we will not be able to win the Mumbai Municipal Council elections.” Forget about the upcoming assembly elections.
Varsha Gaikwad has not yet given any reaction in this matter. She recently resigned from the post of MLA in Maharashtra after winning the Lok Sabha elections. Varsha won the Mumbai North Central seat by defeating BJP's Ujjwal Nikam. Congress won the maximum 13 seats in Maharashtra. Mahavikas Aghadi won 30 out of 48 seats.
