Araria, August 05 (H.S.). The landless Bhangi community that was living in Ward No. 1 and 7 south of Forbisganj Kali Mela Ground for years was removed some time ago and rehabilitated on the damaged park land. The people of the landless Bhangi community demonstrated at the Municipal Council office on Monday demanding that they be rehabilitated by constructing permanent houses on the inhabited land itself.

Demonstrators Shalu Devi, Bulbul Devi, Neeraj Kumar, Arvind Marik, Pappu Marik, Sunny Marik, Rekha Devi, etc. said that they belong to the landless Bhangi community and have been living on government land in Ward No. 1 and 7, south of Kali Mela Ground, for nearly 50 years. A few years ago, they were living in Mela Ground Ward No. 1 and 7 by building houses of straw, tin and plastic, but the Zonal Officer had assured them that they would be removed from there and would be allowed to live on the land of the damaged park, after which they were living on the land of the damaged park, but now they are living in fear because of the discussion of giving land in Simraha village, 14 kilometers away from Forbesganj urban area.

The protesters said that their main work is cleaning and their children study in a government school. In such a situation, settling so far away would create difficulty in supporting the family. They also demanded benefits as per letter no. 1758 dated 08 July 2019 of the Chief Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department. A memorandum in the name of the DM was handed over to the EO by the protesters regarding the matter.
