New Tehri, 01 March (Hindustan Reporter). Villagers of Baghi village of Sarjula Patti met DM Mayur Dixit on Friday and demanded implementation of the agreements made in exchange for the land being used by THDC Hydro Engineering College. The villagers also submitted a memorandum to the DM in this regard.
On Friday, women and other people of Baghi village met DM Mayur Dixit under the leadership of village head Leela Devi. While submitting the memorandum to the DM, he said that THDC acquired the land of the villagers of Bagi and Dibnu villages and built Hydro Engineering College. During this time, on the instructions of the then Commissioner Garhwal, a tripartite agreement was made with the villagers. Under this, a promise was made to provide community facilities to the villagers, but till date this promise has not been fulfilled. The villagers demanded the DM to fulfill various demands of the villagers under a compromise.
The villagers demand that THDC should adopt the rebel village. THDC should provide electricity and water facilities to the village, roads and paths should be built in village Baghi, the farmers who have not been paid should be paid at the current rates, along with providing 60 solar lights to the village, railings should be installed in 5 km of the village. Along with opening a mini gym for rural children, THDC should also construct a community hall on unused land, THDC should do the work of providing employment to the unemployed youth of the village as per their merit.
