Mumbai: Malad police arrested a delivery agent from Bhiwandi for stealing goods returned by customers and replacing them with old ones. Police have seized seven mobile phones from the accused Rohit Nagpur, 26.
Nagpure was arrested after a four-month long investigation. Nagpur works for Bengaluru-based Sonal Industrial Shadowfax Technology Pvt Ltd, an online goods delivery company. They have an office in Malad (Way) and the staff includes twenty-five agents who submit reports every evening.
Online goods- Delivery of goods happens so often that sometimes customers refuse to accept the goods for various reasons or are not present at home at the time of delivery. In such cases, the parcel is returned to the office. From April 1 to April 27, many such customers did not receive their parcels for some reason or the other.
Instead of returning these parcels to the company's warehouse in Nagpur, he would remove the original item from the box and replace it with old items in case of mobiles or accessories. The incident came to light when several expensive items, including 33 mobile phones, were found missing from the parcels. The total value of these missing items was Rs 11.5 lakh.
The delivery company complained about this to the police, the police registered a case against the unknown agent and further investigation was done, in which Nagpure was arrested after four months of investigation on the basis of technical evidence and recording the statements of the agents. Police seized seven mobiles from Nagpur in this case and further investigation was done.
