Delhi will get relief from jam: LG approves MMI plan at 6 metro stations, 5.5 KM elevated road on Maa Anandamayi Marg and Mukarba Chowk project; Know complete details

New Delhi. Relief news has emerged for lakhs of commuters in the capital Delhi who are facing daily heavy traffic jams, long queues at signals and haphazard gathering of vehicles outside metro stations. In the high-level meeting of the 70th Governing Body of UTTIPEC (Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Centre) held under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, final approval has been given to many big infrastructure projects of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Public Works Department (PWD).

Three key areas in particular have been approved in this meeting: Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) plan for 6 major stations of Delhi Metro, 5.5 km long six-lane elevated corridor on Ma Anandamayi Marg in South Delhi, and 10-lane widening of Railway Overbridge (ROB) to decongest Mukarba Chowk, the busiest bottleneck of North-West Delhi. After the implementation of these three projects, not only will the travel time of Delhiites reduce, but pollution and wastage of fuel will also be effectively controlled.

DMRC had prepared a blueprint for Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) to eliminate the hassle that passengers face in reaching autos, e-rickshaws and buses as soon as they exit the station under Phase-1 and Phase-2 network of Delhi Metro. In the latest meeting, MMI plans of 6 important stations have been approved. With this, the MMI plans of all the 31 primary stations proposed by DMRC have received full approval from UTIPAC.

List of 6 metro stations which will be rejuvenated:

• GTB Nagar (Yellow Line): The movement of students and daily commuters will be streamlined near the North Campus of Delhi University.

• Malviya Nagar (Yellow Line): Residential-commercial areas of Saket and Malviya Nagar in South Delhi will get smooth feeder connectivity.

• Akshardham (Blue Line): A safe drop-off zone will be ready for tourists and trans-Yamuna travelers.

• Sarita Vihar (Violet Line): Traffic jams and safety of pedestrians will be ensured on Badarpur-Mathura road.

• Shastri Park (Red Line): Commuters heading towards Seelampur and Shahdara in East Delhi will get seamless transfer.

• Rohini West / Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital (Red Line): A separate dedicated lane will be made for patients coming to the hospital and passengers from West Delhi.

Around all these stations 300 meter radius Will be redesigned. In this, wide footpaths, cycle tracks, separate stands for e-rickshaws and autos, designated ‘pick and drop’ bays for buses and modern signage will be installed, which will completely stop jams at the main gates of the stations.

More than 10,000 vehicles per hour pass daily on the Maa Anandamayi Marg between Kalkaji and Mehrauli-Badarpur (MB) Road in South Delhi, leading to several kilometer long traffic jams during peak hours. • 12 traffic signals will be bypassed: This corridor will start from Outer Ring Road and will go straight to Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, thereby directly bypassing about 12 busy intersections including Crown Plaza, Okhla Phase-2, Maharaja Agrasen Marg and Railway Colony Road.

• Big relief to Okhla industrial area: The traffic of commercial and industrial trucks and office commuters of Okhla Phase-1 and Phase-2 will be divided below and above the elevated road.

• Underpass and roundabout at Crowne Plaza intersection: Along with this, a new underpass and rotary (roundabout) will also be built at Crown Plaza Junction on Okhla Estate Road, so that local vehicles will be able to pass without any hindrance.

Mukarba Chowk (GT Karnal Road/NH-44 Junction), the gateway to North and North-West Delhi, faces traffic jams day and night due to heavy trucks and interstate buses coming from Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. To completely decongest it, UTPAC has approved two major road measures:
