The weather remains very pleasant for the people living in the country’s capital Delhi and surrounding areas (NCR). Due to continuous rain and strong cold winds, Wednesday morning was very cool and pleasant in Delhi. India Meteorological Department (IMD), while giving big news of relief to the people of Delhi-NCR, has predicted that this series of rains and storms will continue intermittently in the area till June 21. This pleasant change in the weather has been seen in Delhi just a day after the coldest day so far in the month of June, which has given complete relief to the people from the recent record-breaking heat wave.
Mercury dropped by 5.5 degrees in Safdarjung, good rain in many areas
According to the data of the Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature at Delhi’s main weather center Safdarjung on Tuesday was recorded 5.5 degrees below normal i.e. only 33.3 degrees Celsius. This was much lower than Monday’s maximum temperature (37.5 degrees Celsius), which made the month of June feel like July.
Talking about other major areas of Delhi, the temperature was recorded at 33.2 degrees in Lodhi Road, 32.7 degrees in Ayanagar and 32.5 degrees Celsius in Palam, while the highest temperature was 34.5 degrees Celsius in the Ridge area. Along with this, heavy rain was also recorded in many parts of Delhi. Palam recorded the maximum rainfall of 9.1 mm between morning and evening. After this, 2.8 mm rain was recorded in Safdarjung, 2.5 mm in Ayanagar and 1.2 mm rain was recorded at Lodhi Road.
It remained cool even at night, minimum temperature reached 23 to 24 degrees
After the rain, not only has the day temperature dropped, but the night and morning minimum temperatures across Delhi have also gone much below normal. The minimum temperature in Safdarjung was recorded at 25.7 degrees Celsius, while in areas like Lodhi Road, Ayanagar, Palam and Ridge, the night temperature dropped to between 23 to 24 degrees Celsius, providing a big relief to the people from the humid heat at night.

According to experts of Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency, at present a strong cyclonic circulation (area of cyclonic winds) is formed over the plains of Punjab, Haryana and its surrounding areas. Along with this, moisture-laden south-westerly winds from the Arabian Sea are continuously coming towards North India, due to which the collision is causing pre-monsoon rains in Delhi-NCR. Meteorologists say that due to excessive moisture in the air, there will be no sudden increase in temperature for the next few days. However, from June 21 onwards the weather may once again take a turn and the temperature will start rising gradually.
Delhi’s air also became clean, AQI reached ‘moderate’ category
The climate of Delhi has also got the biggest benefit of this storm and rain. Dust and pollution particles have settled on the ground along with rain drops. According to the latest data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has come down to the level of 116, which is considered in the ‘moderate’ i.e. normal and satisfactory category.
