Delhi Traffic Advisory Today: See advisory before leaving home in Delhi, there will be heavy diversion on these routes.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for motorists and daily commuters traveling in the national capital Delhi today. Vehicular traffic has been restricted and diverted on several major routes in the central, southern and north-eastern parts of the city in view of special administrative events, VIP movement, road repair works and crowd gathering in markets due to the festive season. The traffic police has advised daily commuters to leave early, avoid congested arterial roads and use public transport—especially Delhi Metro—to avoid hour-long jams and unnecessary inconvenience.

Administrative and official events have led to extensive changes in the traffic network around Central Delhi and Lutyens Zone. Traffic heading towards India Gate C-Hexagon, Dutta Path, Janpath, Mansingh Road, Akbar Road, Teen Murti Marg and Maulana Azad Road is being controlled. Due to tight security especially around Sansad Marg, Rafi Marg and Diplomatic Enclave of Chanakyapuri, slow movement of vehicles may be seen during peak hours (8:30 am to 11:30 am and 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm). The traffic police has instructed ordinary private vehicles to use alternative outer routes instead of these roads.

Heavy traffic load is expected at major parts of ITO Chowk, Vikas Marg, Pragati Maidan Tunnel, Sarai Kale Khan and Ring Road. Due to ongoing maintenance work by the Public Works Department (PWD) on some major flyovers and underpasses and narrowing of road lanes on the stretch connecting Ashram to DND flyway in South Delhi, vehicles may be seen crawling. Apart from this, heavy traffic jams may occur near Anand Vihar ISBT, Kashmiri Gate and Ghazipur Border due to the pressure of interstate buses and goods commercial vehicles. Daily commuters traveling from Delhi to Ghaziabad and Noida need to exercise special caution.

The traffic police has outlined alternative routes for the convenience of the passengers to avoid the jam, which can be understood through the table given below:

Affected/congested main roads Reason for diversion and restriction Easy and safe alternative route
India Gate C-Hexagon and Janpath VIP movement and special security protocols Aurobindo Marg, Lodhi Road and Shanti Path
ITO and Vikas Marg Corridor Office peak hours and road maintenance Geeta Colony Bridge, Nizamuddin Bridge or Barapula Corridor
Ashram Chowk and Ring Road Junction Lane hybridization and underpass construction work Lajpat Nagar – Captain Gaur Marg and Mathura Road Bypass
Chandni Chowk and Old Delhi area Heavy foot and e-rickshaw crowd due to festive shopping SP Mukherjee Marg, Ring Road Bypass and Metro Rail Service
Anand Vihar and Ghazipur border section Pressure from heavy goods vehicles and interstate buses Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) and Noida Link Road

If you are leaving for New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), Old Delhi Railway Station (ODRL), Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station or Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport – T1/T2/T3) today, leave home with at least 45 minutes to 1 hour extra time from the normal travel time.

Traffic is expected to be very slow towards Ajmeri Gate (New Delhi Station) on JLN Marg and around Minto Bridge, hence diverting to Paharganj side or directly using New Delhi Metro Station (Yellow and Airport Express Line) would be the safest option to save time. Similarly, passengers going towards the airport can prefer the Airport Express Metro Line or Dwarka Expressway route to avoid jams at Dhaula Kuan and Mahipalpur flyover.

Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to the citizens to take maximum advantage of Delhi Metro services instead of private four-wheelers so that the density of vehicles on the roads remains less. Also, make sure to check the live traffic situation on Google Maps before starting the journey.

Citizens can follow the real-time alerts issued on the official social media handles of Delhi Traffic Police (X / @dtptraffic) or call the traffic control room helpline number. 011-25844444 or whatsapp helpline 8750871493 By contacting , you can get accurate information about road blockage or diversion on any route. Provision of special green corridors has also been ensured to provide unhindered passage to emergency services, ambulances and fire vehicles.
