Roads around the Red Fort will be closed from 4 am to 10 am on Thursday due to Independence Day celebrations. If you are planning to visit the Red Fort, you may face trouble due to security reasons. The traffic police has appealed to people to avoid visiting the Red Fort and some roads in New Delhi till noon due to VAP movement. A statement issued by the traffic police said that movement has been restricted around the Red Fort area on Thursday for the convenience and safety of those invited to the main Independence Day celebrations.

Vehicles will not run on these roads

According to the traffic police, normal vehicular movement will not be allowed on Netaji Subhash Marg (Delhi Gate to Chhatta Rail), Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Ring Road (Rajghat to Kashmiri Gate Bus Stand). Only vehicles parked near the function will be allowed on these roads. Apart from this, the police has appealed to the people to stay away from C Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikander Road, A Point Tilak Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg and surrounding roads of New Delhi till 10 am.

The bus route has also been changed

Bus routes will also be changed due to Independence Day celebrations. The timing of buses coming to New Delhi will be changed in advance. Apart from this, the route of buses coming towards Kashmiri Gate has been changed. Buses coming from Ghaziabad will reach Kashmiri Gate Bus Station via Chandgi Ram Akhara, Bhopura Chungi Road, Wazirabad Road. Buses coming from Dhaula Kuan will also reach Punjabi Bagh, Azadpur Chandgi Ram Akhara via Ring Road. Buses coming from Faridabad towards Kashmiri Gate Bus Station will be stopped at Sarai Kale Khan or will go towards Kashmiri Gate via Dhaula Kuan, Punjabi Bud, Azadpur.

Diversion plan for DTC buses

DTC buses will not run on many routes in Delhi due to the celebrations at the Red Fort on Independence Day. The routes of these buses will be changed and will be run on other routes. A DTC official said that the route diversion plan came into effect from 12 midnight on August 14 and will remain in force till 11 am on Thursday. During this period, the route of 29 bus routes will be changed.

DTC Public Relations Manager Rakesh Kumar said that buses running on the route from Yamuna Bazaar Road Ring Road to Jat Fauji Dharamshala, Subhash Marg Chhatta Rail to Delhi Gate, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg, Ring Road Nizamuddin Bridge to North Loop Bus Stand, C-Hexagon Road, Shershala Road, Purana Qila Road, Copernicus Marg, Pandara Road, Rajpath, Akbar Road, Tilak Marg, Sikandra Road, Bhagwandas Marg, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, Vikas Marg to Delhi Secretariat Loop, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Ferozshah Road to C-Hexagon Marg, Ashoka Road, Windsor Place to C-Hexagon Marg will be diverted through other routes. New routes have been decided for this. He said that by 11 am or after the ceremony at the Red Fort ends, all routes will be restored and buses will start running on their pre-determined routes.

Metro will run from 4 am

For the convenience of the public during the Independence Day celebrations in Delhi on Thursday, metro operations will start from 4 am. From 4 pm, metro will run at an interval of 15 minutes from the terminal stations of all corridors of Delhi. This arrangement will continue till six in the morning. After this, the metro will operate on its scheduled frequency like normal days. According to the metro, keeping security in mind, there will be some restrictions at Lal Qila, Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk metro stations. Entry and exit at these stations will be allowed only to those who have the original invitation card issued by the Ministry of Defense to participate in the Independence Day celebrations, they will be allowed to travel only on presenting valid government documents.
