Delhi: Speedy justice needed in cases of atrocities against women: PM Modi | News India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at an event organized on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court, said that there is a need for speedy justice in cases of crime against women, which will increase the confidence of women in their security. PM Modi said that the judiciary is considered the guardian of the Constitution and the Supreme Court and the judiciary have fulfilled this responsibility very well.

Addressing the inaugural session of the National District Judiciary Council in the presence of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, he said that the people of India have never shown any faith in the Supreme Court or the judiciary. Describing the imposition of emergency as a 'dark' period, the Prime Minister said that the judiciary played an important role in upholding fundamental rights.

On the matter of national security, PM Modi said that the judiciary has protected national integrity by keeping national interests paramount. In the backdrop of the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata and the sexual assault of two girls in a school in Thane, he said that atrocities against women and child safety are a matter of serious concern for the society.

The Prime Minister said, “The faster justice is delivered in cases of violence against women, the more confident half the population will be about their safety, so that better coordination can be ensured in the criminal justice system to ensure speedy justice.”

PM Modi released a coin and a postage stamp to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, CJI DY Chandrachud and Supreme Court Bar Association President Kapil Sibal were also present on this occasion.
