Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S. Somnath on August 23 lauded the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in strengthening India's space sector on the occasion of National Space Day, he appreciated the policy reforms undertaken by Prime Minister Modi in this direction to further the development of the space sector.
He said, 'Prime Minister Modi has not only made a space policy but has also implemented it. ISRO Chairman said, 'After reforms in the space sector, now a space policy is being worked on which will clearly define the roles and responsibilities of the Department of Space, ISRO and New Space India Limited. After this, the participation of the private sector in the space sector will increase.
He said that the Foreign Direct Investment policy has also been announced. After this, private investment or foreign investment has been allowed in the space sector with some restrictions. Earlier this was not possible. After the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3, Prime Minister Modi announced to celebrate National Space Day on 23 August. The landing point was named Shivshakti Point. The landing site of Chandrayaan-2 was named Triranga Point.
A land-local policy has also been announced
The ISRO chief said the Department of Science and Technology has also come up with a geospatial policy. This means that all geospatial data, even satellite data, up to five-metre resolution will be freely available to everyone. Recalling the Prime Minister's live participation in the Chandrayaan-3 moon landing event, he said, “Our Prime Minister was watching the live telecast. He joined us at a short distance from the BRICS summit.”

On the occasion of the first Space Day, URR Rao Satellite Center Director M. Shankar also recalled Prime Minister Modi's visit to the space center after the successful launch of Chandrayaan-3. He clearly said that there is a need to involve other government agencies in space activities. This is the result of reforms in the space sector.'
