Due to polluted air in Delhi, the number of respiratory patients in hospitals has increased by 30-40%. Especially children and the elderly are becoming the biggest victims of this pollution. Doctors say that due to increasing air pollution, people are facing problems like difficulty in breathing, cough and eye irritation.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi continues to remain in the 'very poor' category. On Wednesday, the city's AQI was recorded at 367, which is hazardous to health. In cold weather, pollution particles like PM2.5 and PM10 remain in the air for a long time, which increases breathing problems.

What do the experts say?

Dr. Arunesh Kumar, Senior Consultant, Paras Health Hospital, Gurugram said that we are seeing a rapid increase in respiratory cases. Pollutants like PM 2.5 and PM 10 are present in the air and these are the main reasons for the poisonous air of Delhi. At the same time, Dr. Anshita Mishra of Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi said that due to pollution, complaints of eye irritation and dry cough have become common. These complaints are likely to increase further after Diwali. Doctors have advised children and the elderly to take special precautions because they are the most affected by this pollution.

What to do for safety?

For protection, doctors have advised wearing N95 masks, which provide protection from small pollutant particles. Apart from this, people have been advised to avoid going out and exercising in the open. Especially in the morning when pollution levels are high. Along with this, experts have also advised to use air purifiers inside the house, drink enough water and take nutritious diet so that the body's immunity remains strong and helps in fighting the effects of pollution.
