Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the Delhi Excise Policy scam, has once again suffered a major setback. The High Court has rejected his plea against his arrest in the CBI case and for bail in the case. However, the High Court has allowed him to approach the trial court for bail.
A bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna said that Kejriwal's arrest was not illegal and it cannot be said that the CBI had arrested him without any reason.
It is worth noting that the CBI arrested Kejriwal on June 26. At that time he is in the custody of ED. However, the Supreme Court has granted him interim bail in the money laundering case.
Kejriwal had challenged the lower court's decision to arrest and remand him in the CBI case in the High Court. The ED arrested Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Kejriwal on March 21 in a money laundering case related to the excise policy scam.
ED and CBI have called Kejriwal the mastermind of the excise policy scam. However, Aam Aadmi Party has rejected these allegations. Aam Aadmi Party has said that the Chief Minister and other leaders have been implicated in false cases to destabilize the Delhi government.
The central investigating agency has claimed that the excise policy for the financial year 2021-22 has been wrongly changed. There is a provision in it that liquor businessmen are given more benefits and in return bribes are taken from them.
