Delhi: Doctors are becoming more dependent on Google Mataji: AIIMS | News India

Excessive dependence of medical students on Google Mataji and the declining activity of interactive learning with patients to prioritise admission to postgraduate courses are the biggest challenges facing the country's medical education system, said AIIMS Delhi Director Dr. Srinivas.

Improvement in medical education and skill upgradation is necessary because humans are constantly evolving. Doctors are not God. Complications in treatment can lead to death, but there should be no negligence. When a problem arises, the patient and his family should understand that the disease that caused death can be treated normally. When a patient's condition becomes critical or he dies at night, not only the patient's family but also the family members of other patients present there attack the doctor. There should be a backup system to resolve this situation. At this time, a senior person or medical social worker should be present there who will talk to these people and calm them down.

Ignoring the knowledge gained while sitting at the patient's bedside: Srinivas

AIIMS Delhi director expressed concern that more and more medical students are now focusing on taking admission in PG courses. He said that this means that you give less importance to the knowledge gained by sitting near the patient's bed. Because we students learned more from patients in the ward, casualty and operation theatre than from our seniors and teachers. Now students are dependent on tutorials and various agencies which is a big challenge for us.
