The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has identified 34 serious non-compliance cases related to corruption by several government departments. In which the advice to take legal action against corrupt officials has been softened. In some cases, corrupt officials have been acquitted or their punishment has been reduced by the departments.
In 23 cases, corrupt officials were not punished or their punishment was reduced, Out of the total cases where officials were not prosecuted or were given less punishment, 7 cases are from the Ministry of Coal while 5 cases are from State Bank of India (SBI) and 4 cases are from IDBI Bank and 3 cases are from the Ministry of Steel and 20 cases are from the Ministry of Power and NBCC India. According to the report, one such case has been registered in Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, Ministry of Railways, Aviation Authority of India, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Board and CSIR. One such case of not taking action against the responsible corrupt official without following the advice of CVC is of Security Printing Press and Minting Corporation, while one case each has come up in ECIL, National Fertilizer, Punjab National Bank and United India Insurance Company. Officials of Bharat Coking Coal, including a project officer, a chief manager, three managers and a director, were held responsible for terminating, re-tendering and re-awarding contracts for hiring heavy earth machinery.
